Paving glossary
Compaction,
defined plainly.
One term, one honest explanation — from the shop that deals with it daily.
Compaction: Densifying soil, rock or asphalt with rollers so it can carry load without settling. Every layer of a pavement gets compacted separately.
Why it matters on your job: Edges get hand-rolled attention on our driveways because that's where compaction is hardest to achieve and failure shows first.
