Base Course,
defined plainly.
One term, one honest explanation — from the shop that deals with it daily.
Base Course: The layer of compacted crushed rock between the soil and the asphalt. It spreads wheel loads so the ground below never feels them directly.
Why it matters on your job: Most early pavement failures we dig up in the Valley trace to a skimped base — it's the part you can't see and the part we refuse to shortcut.
