Paving glossary
Rutting,
defined plainly.
One term, one honest explanation — from the shop that deals with it daily.
Rutting: Channels worn into asphalt along wheel paths, from either an overloaded surface or an under-built section.
Why it matters on your job: Rutting at a dairy approach or truck gate tells us the section was specced for cars — we rebuild those lanes for the axles they actually carry.
