Paint is cheap; layout is valuable. The difference between a lot that parks 60 and one that parks 68 on the same asphalt is usually a drawing, not a construction project.

Layout is a math problem
Stall width (8.5–9 ft typical), stall depth, aisle width, and angle interact: 90° parking maximizes stalls but needs wide aisles; 60° angles trade a few stalls for easier flow and fewer door dings. On oddly shaped lots, re-angling a bay routinely recovers 5–10% more stalls. If your lot was striped by copying whatever faded lines were there before — most are — nobody has ever actually done this math on it.
The compliance layer
ADA stalls (count, van-accessible aisle, slope, signage), fire lanes to the local fire authority's spec, and crosswalks where pedestrians actually walk. These aren't optional garnish — they're the items lawsuits and fire inspections check first, and they have to be placed before the general layout locks in, not squeezed in after.
Paint, thermoplastic and re-stripe cycles
Water-based traffic paint is the standard: dry in under an hour in Valley heat, 2–4 years of life on a sealed lot. Thermoplastic costs several times more and lasts 5–8 — worth it for truck lanes and arrows, rarely worth it for stalls. The smart cycle pairs striping with sealcoating: seal buries the old lines, fresh layout goes on clean black.
What it costs
A straightforward re-stripe of an existing layout typically runs $4–$7 per stall plus fixed items (ADA package, arrows, fire lane); a full re-layout adds design time but pays for itself the day you find stalls you didn't know you had. Ballparks — the written quote comes from a site walk.
