What resurfacing is
A polymer-modified cement overlay, typically ¼ to ½ inch, bonded to the existing slab after thorough prep — new wearing surface, same footprint, cured and finished like new concrete. Broom, knockdown, even stamped and colored finishes are all on the menu. Done on a qualifying slab, it's indistinguishable from replacement at sidewalk distance and costs roughly half.
The qualifying test
Resurfacing inherits the slab beneath it, so the slab must deserve it: no heaving or settling (level matters more than pretty), cracks that are stable hairlines rather than moving structural breaks, and drainage that works. Spalling, surface scaling, stains, and tired finishes — the cosmetic sins — are exactly what overlays fix. We walk the slab and tell you straight which category yours is; sometimes the answer is 'grind and resurface,' sometimes it's 'this slab is done.'
Cost and timeline
Central Valley residential resurfacing typically runs $4–$9 per square foot depending on prep and finish (stamped/colored at the top of the range) versus $10–$18 for tear-out and replacement. Timeline: prep day one, overlay day two, foot traffic next day, vehicles within about a week. No demolition dumpster, no week of bare dirt.
